England and Wales go into this third and final group game with plenty at stake. The Three Lions would have expected to have qualified for the round of 16 by this stage, however, they require at least a point from this encounter in order to secure their passage. Gareth Southgate will also need to ensure that his side are far more adventurous and creative than they were on Friday evening if they are to break down the stubborn Welsh resistance. Nevertheless, Wales look tired against Iran on Friday and their small squad could be stretched by this hectic schedule. They will put up a decent fight, especially considering that they will be backed by a vociferous crowd, yet they may just fall short.

Wales cannot afford to settle for a point and they will have to do something that they aren’t used to; playing on the front foot and going on the attack. As they do, this game should open up and should produce a few goals and corners, particularly during the second half.

Although both sides will want to create chances and attack, Wales lack quality in the final third. Gareth Bale was a little subdued on Friday and if he has another quiet game, then Wales’ attacking output may be limited. At the other end of the field, England should create opportunities, but may find it difficult to penetrate the Welsh back-line. Meaningful efforts on goal may be at a premium.
