Hungary were desperately disappointing against Portugal and although they weren’t expected to take anything from the Euro 2016 winners, they produced very little going forward despite playing in front of a home crowd. They ended the game with an xG of just 0.18 and managed just two shots from inside the box.
Admittedly, they’ve been drawn in a tough group, however, they can’t simply rely on their defensive diligence. At the back, they were strong enough and Fernando Santos’ men were unable to find a way through until late in the day.
France were victorious against Germany, despite Joachim Low’s side dominating throughout. Les Bleus were helped by an own goal, although there were notable performances from both Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante. Didier Deschamps’ side weren’t at their fluent best and they need to be far more ruthless in the final third this time around.
The world champions should win this game, and they should be able to record their second successive clean sheet in the process.
