Things haven’t gone according to plan for Spain during this competition and Luis Enrique’s side are yet to take maximum points from either of their first two games. They have enjoyed plenty of possession, however, they’ve been unable to find their cutting edge in the final third.
There is plenty of expectation on the shoulders of 18-year old Pedri, however, the teenager was unable to make his presence felt against a physical Poland side on Saturday. This game against a streetwise Slovakia won’t be much easier and although La Roja do tend to find a way to overcome adversity, there is plenty of pressure on this young team. It’s the first time that this team has lacked a superstar, but they need a hero on Wednesday afternoon.
Slovakia looked good against Poland and deservedly came away with a victory, however, they struggled to have any kind of impact against Sweden and failed to register a shot on target. They need to be much better here. Spain usually find a way to sneak through and the bare minimum may just be enough here.
