The opening game of Euro 2020 is an intriguing contest. Curtain-raisers don’t tend to be classics, however, Turkey don’t do low-scoring under Senol Gunes and they should play their part in an entertaining 90 minutes.
The wily manager knows what it takes to compete at a major tournament and his side will be ready for their trip to Stadio Olimpico. In Burak Yilmaz, they have an in-form goal-scorer and they should give the Azzurri back-line plenty to think about.
However, Roberto Mancini’s side have home advantage and will be determined to begin on a positive note. They may lack an Internationally-proven goal-scorer (although Ciro Immobile and Andrea Belotti are both effective domestically) and their detractors have suggested that they are yet to be properly tested during qualifying.
The Italians should have enough talent and composure to just about claim three points in this Friday night opener.
