Japan v Costa Rica = Japan to WIN & Over 1.5 Goals
We see plenty of sides cause shocks at major tournaments, however, there is often a trend for these giant-killing nations to struggle next time out. Nevertheless, it’s hard to imagine that Japan will slip up against Costa Rica on Sunday. Costa Rica simply must improve their performance levels here, but they should still fall short against a well-organised and dangerous Japanese outfit. The Blue Samurai were excellent against Germany and should be able to move onto six points and top of the group (for a short while at least).
Croatia v Canada = Canada Win or Draw (Double Chance)
Canada put in a tremendous performance against Belgium on Wednesday night and were extremely unlucky to not take a single point from that encounter.
John Herdman can be proud of his side and he will be confident that his side can progress from the group. They did to be a little more clinical in the final third and convert their chances as they aren’t likely to come too often against the 2018 finalists. Croatia looked a little lethargic against Morocco and simply must improve.
Luka Modric looked a little subdued and they must find a way of unleashing their ageing talisman.
Spain v Germany = Over 1.5 Spain Goals
Spain were imperious against Costa Rica in their opening group match, however, they were helped by their opponent’s poor defending. La Roja aren’t likely to face an easier match at this tournament and this should be their toughest task of the group stage. Germany will be desperately hoping to bounce back following a 2-1 defeat to Japan, however, there is significant pressure on Hansi Flick and his side to avoid an early exit here.
Spain looked pretty sharp and were excellent in the final. Although Germany are fairly handy going forward, they were opened up far too easily by Japan and Spain could look to forge a similar route.
