Switzerland v Cameroon = Under 2.5 Goals
The Swiss are an extremely functional side who usually have enough to make it through to the round of 16. Nevertheless, the squad is beginning to age and despite Granit Xhaka’s sublime performances in the Premier League this season, they still have a number of the players who are probably past their best. Murat Yakin’s tenure has been mixed so far, although they did show that they’re capable of beating top teams such as Spain and Portugal (in the Nations League).
Switzerland’s toughest games in this group are still to come and they will be expected to collect three points in this tie. The heat in Qatar is likely to affect the tempo of the early games and they are unlikely to use up too much energy during this winnable-looking fixture.
Uruguay v South Korea = Uruguay to WIN
With questions over the attitude of Portugal’s players and the system deployed by Fernando Santos, Uruguay are widely expected to finish top of Group H. Diego Alonso’s men don’t arrive at the WC with as much expectation as their South American counterparts Brazil and Argentina, however, their fans will be quietly confident of success in this opener.
Since the change of management, Uruguay have been defensively sound. Despite the presence of the ageing Luis Suarez, they still possess plenty of firepower going forward and will pose a threat throughout the 90 minutes.
South Korea are a decent side and they always tend to perform reasonably well at the WC. However, they are rarely tested against better sides in their qualifying section. They’ve won just one of their last WC matches and have lost both previous meeting with Uruguay.
Brazil v Serbia = Over 2.5 Goals
Brazil are rightfully favourites for success in Qatar and there is a lot of expectation on Tite’s men coming into the tournament. The Selecao are dripping with talent and although they are blessed with attacking riches, they are also pretty secure at the back. Nevertheless, they may find it hard to keep Serbia off the score-sheet in their opener. Serbia use the width of the pitch effectively and are one of the most attack-minded sides in the tournament. Although there are questions over the fitness of Aleksandar Mitrovic, they also possess the excellent Dusan Vhalovic.
Serbia finished above Portugal in the qualifying group and notched twice against them in both meetings.
