England put in a very convincing display on Monday afternoon as they eased past Iran in their opening Group B encounter. The Three Lions were explosive going forward and extremely clinical. They found the net with six of their first seven shots and the goals were shared around. Very few would have predicted that striker Harry Kane would fail to get on the scoresheet, however, a number of midfielders stepped up and found the net when it mattered.
They will take plenty of confidence from that performance and with a potentially tricky tie against Wales still to come, they will be hoping to essentially secure qualification on Friday night.
Although they looked good going forward, England looked a little shaky at the back and the USA showed enough going forward on Monday night. Timothy Weah scored a fantastic goal and they looked dangerous on the counter attack. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Gregg Berhalter’s side notch and contribute to a high-scoring contest.
Jude Bellingham could easily be the breakout star of this tournament. The Dortmund midfielder has been producing the goods in the Bundesliga all season and he’s now showing his class on the international stage. He is likely to get into good goal-scoring positions and is a decent price to notch for the second game running.
